First held in 1999, the annual Monterey Cowboy Poetry & Music Festival and Western Art and Gear Show quickly became one of the West's top gatherings, attracting the best of the best Cowboy poets and musicians.

For its first six years, the festival was headed by founder Gary Brown. Poet and musician Mick Vernon succeeded Gary Brown and is the current Artistic Director. Gerry Montgomery is the current Festival Board President.

The festival organizers state, "We are a group of volunteers who love cowboy poetry, western music, cowboy movies and western art and gear. Each of us has a day job to support our hobbies and interests. We formed a non-profit corporation 501(c)(3) in order to bring the best western entertainment and art to Monterey County and especially the historical City of Monterey. We aim to produce the best cowboy event of its kind for your enjoyment."

Below are the posters and invited participants from each year.  The original posters are available from the Monterey Cowboy Poetry & Music Festival web site.

The Monterey Cowboy Poetry & Music Festival welcomes public support (contributions are tax-deductible). Visit the Monterey Cowboy Poetry & Music Festival web site or write to them at: 498 Foam #8, Monterey, CA 93940.
