Proclamation from South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard

From Francie Ganje:

In recognition of Cowboy Poetry Week April 21-27, 2013, South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard presented the Heritage of the American West Performance Series with a State Proclamation recognizing the rich history of cowboy story telling.  As part of the cultural fabric of the state, both early day and contemporary cowboy poetry continues to depict a colorful part of the state’s legacy and future. Pictured with the Governor are Michael Pangburn (right), Executive Director of the South Dakota Arts Council that supports western performing arts. Also pictured are Carmen Woodward and Gary Heintz, (left) cowboy poetry and western entertainment promoters, Pierre, SD.  Celebrations during the week include a Writing the West Workshop and live stage performance, “Rhythm & Rhyme: Music, Poetry & Song of the Great American Cowboy!”, Thursday, April 25, 2013.  Set in the Days of ’76 Museum in Historic Deadwood, SD, the events are presented by the Heritage of the American West Performance Series.

Spearfish Mayor Jerry Krambeck presents the city's Official Cowboy Poetry Week Proclamation to Heritage of the American West Director, Francie Ganje. The community's western legacy, with its slogan of "Best In The West," is the basis of the poem by multiple award winning author and poet, Yvonne Hollenbeck. Titled "Queen of the Cowtowns," the poem is included in the Will Rogers Medallion Award winning book by Yvonne, From My Window.
