Rick Huff Reviews
Rick Huff reviews Western music and cowboy poetry recordings in his "Rick's Roundup" column in Rope Burns, The Western Way, I.M. Cowgirl, CowboyPoetry.com, and other publications.

American Cowboy, published bi-monthly, includes staff-written reviews.

Western Horseman, published monthly, includes staff-written reviews.

Persimmon Hill, published quarterly by the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, includes staff-written and contributed reviews. 

Rope Burns, published bi-monthly with news from the "Cowboy Entertainment and Trade Industry" accepts reviews by email; do not submit books or recordings.  

At CowboyPoetry.com, we review a very few selected books and recordings. We don't accept requests for reviews. Everyone is welcome to send announcements for new books and recordings that include a description and order information. Just email us.

Awards

Will Rogers Medallion Award, presented annually for books that exemplify outstanding excellence in content and design. Books are judged by a panel.

Will Rogers Buck Ramsey Best Cowboy Poetry Book Award, presented annually by the Academy of Western Artists, voted on by the membership.

Will Rogers Cowboy Poetry Best Recording Award, presented annually by the Academy of Western Artists, voted on by the membership.

Spur Awards, given annually by Western Writers of America for distinguished writing about the American West since 1953, sometimes include poetry. Awards are open to members and non-members, and are judged by a panel.

Willa Award, given annually by Women Writing the West. "Awarded annually for outstanding literature featuring women's stories set in the West, the WILLA Literary Awards are chosen by a distinguished panel of
twenty-one professional librarians... Entries for the WILLA Literary Awards are open to all persons worldwide and are not limited to WWW members or women specifically."

Western Heritage Award, given annually by the National Cowboy and Western Museum, is open to members and non-members; books are judged by a panel. 

Western Music Association has poetry awards, starting in 2006, with top Male, Female, and best collaboration between a poet and musican.

 

There are numerous regional awards and other poetry awards.
